Shukokai/Shito Ryu Karate

The style of Karate we teach is Tani Ha Shito Ryu, also known as Shukokai.

Traditional Karate is the main focus of the club. We do compete but it is not the main focus of the club however there are opportunities, particularly for juniors to compete. This is primarily a self improvement club and the development of the individual is our primary purpose.

Our club Edinburgh Karate Academy is a member of the Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB)

We are members of KKD Shukokai locally and affiliated to clubs in Glasgow and Kilmarnock.

Shukokai Karate or more correctly, Tani-Ha Shito Ryu was founded by Soke Chojiro Tani after being given permission by Shito Ryu founder Kenwa Mabuni. It is characterised by high stances and has at times been described as "scientific Karate". As a branch of Shito Ryu we are spoilt for choice with a large variety of katas.
