Kali/Escrima

We practice a blend of kali with influences from Keysi, Inosanto Blend, Balintawak,  Modern Arnis, Cognitive Kali. More recently Sensei Angus has been pursuing DFA Kali certification and is now Level 2 certified. We have been fortunate to train with Sensei Allan Millar roughly annually where he teaches Inosanto Blend. We have also benefitted from Paul McCarthy (Inosanto Academy) courses both in person and online, where we have studied Cognitive Kali.

Connor McDermott was one of Angus' early keysi/kali instructors. We have been fortunate to train with Keysi founder Justo Dieguez as well as courses with Keysi International team Bogdan Sicu and Alina Petrina visited the club and taught in 2020. Justo was originally an instructor in Inosanto Academy. There is a Keysi influence in what we do. Angus did Keysi Urban Combat method course with founder Justo Dieguez.

Kali/Escrima training within the club is ad hoc and has been taking place on this basis for more than 10 years and is taught as supplemental to the Karate. However, we are primarily a Karate club and kali/escrima/Keysi is purely supplemental rather than a main focus. We do however feel that it is an excellent art to cross train in and therefore pursue it at the Academy and it helps us with our Karate bunkai. This tends to be mostly practiced during summer months and during the school breaks.
