Welcome

Welcome to the Edinburgh Karate Academy.  We run classes in Buckstone, Fairmilehead  & Oxgangs (Edinburgh South). We are a community not for profit club that aims to make a positive impact on our community and society. Our aim is to make the classes both fun, practical and relevant to today's society within a safe and inclusive environment. Flexibility, strength, balance and co-ordination are improved with exercises ranging from conventional such as sit-ups through stretching and breathing exercises. All sessions start with a comprehensive warm up and end with a warm down in a controlled manner and tailored towards the individual.

The style of Karate we practice is Tani Ha Shito Ryu / Shukokai. We are affiliated to the Scottish Governing Body (SKGB) through our membership of KKD Shukokai Scotland. Students have the option to compete in association/national WKF tournaments, and there are numerous courses throughout the year with national and international instructors.

EKA instructors are Internationally & nationally recognised black belts, having a valid SKGB Coaching license, indemnity insurance, first aid training, CRB checks, enhanced disclosure Scotland and are Sports Coach UK full members and attend regular courses on both sports coaching and Karate & associated martial arts courses. Instructors are volunteers and we consider ourselves a community club.

Charity - The club actively supports charities through a combination of both donations from club funds and sponsorships. We have in the past raised money for Diabetes UK, donated to school sports equipment, and most recently (2022/3) we raised just over £1000 for Disasters and Emergency Committee (Ukraine). 2023/24 we will be raising money for DEC Ukraine again.

The Club is open to new members and we welcome you to get in touch (contact page) and to attend our sessions. Thank you for your interest in Shukokai Karate in Edinburgh. Please look around our site and if you want to get in touch, drop us an email at ekaclasses@hotmail.co.uk
